Do you struggle with keeping your kids' toys organized and put away? You're not alone. How to deal with toy clutter is one of the biggest questions that I get from moms.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: toys do not need to be a source of clutter and disorganization in your home. You can easily tame the toys and encourage your kids to tidy up on their own when you have a system, and my free printable toy storage labels to help!

The Secret to Organizing Toys

The biggest mistake we make when it comes to storing toys is just getting them out of sight. Toys jumbled into a big bin or box might look tidy when everything is put away, but as soon as your kids are ready to play you'll have a giant mess on your hands.

Why? Because they will need to get everything out to find what they are looking for.

Then when it's time to clean up, everything goes back in the big box and the cycle starts again.

There's a better way to organize toys, and it's easy.

You need to start by sorting and separating toys by type. You'll want separate bins or shelves for things like:

  • Blocks
  • Puzzles
  • Games
  • Action figures
  • Pretend play
  • Dolls
  • Plush toys

Everyone's categories will be different, but the key is to keep like toys together. This way, when your kids are ready to play they will know where to find what they need.

And they will also know where to put things when it's time to clean up.

Once you've sorted your toys and put them into the proper bins, it's time to label. Using labels is a great way to give your kids visual reminders of where their toys belong, so there are no excuses at clean up time!

Free Printable Toy Storage Labels

I've made labeling your toy bins easy with these free printable toy storage labels. They are colorful and cute, with photo icons to help pre-readers know where toys go too.

This set includes 4 pages of pre-printed labels with the most common toy categories (24 labels in all). You'll also get one page with 6 blank labels that you can customize for your needs.

Simply download and print on full sized label paper (I prefer Avery brand labels). Then just cut, peel, and stick onto your bins!

If you're using baskets or fabric bins, you can also print them on card stock, punch a hole in the top, and use ribbon to tie them on to the handles or front of your baskets.
