When your dog turns 7, he's now a senior. Feed his mind as well as his body to help him stay sharp and active.

I'm a mom not only to twin boys, but to two dogs and a cat too. My pets are an important part of our family, and I want to take care of them in all stages of their lives. My dog Grady just celebrated his seventh birthday last month, and since age 7 is when dogs are considered to be senior, I wanted to find a way to be sure that I was feeding his mind as well as his body.

We adopted Grady from our local animal shelter when he was 8 months old. He had a difficult life before becoming a part of our family: he had been rescued from a place where he had been neglected, and he was covered in fleas and missing a part of his ear.

Despite a tough beginning, Grady has always been the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. He loves everyone, and has spent time volunteering at nursing homes and with children.

In 2012, Grady woke up one morning in terrible pain. We discovered that he had ruptured a disc in his spine, and he had to undergo neck surgery. He's now fully recovered and he won't let anything slow him down.

Now that Grady has turned 7, I'm thinking about ways to keep him mentally sharp as well as physically active. We headed to PetSmart to pick out a birthday present for him and the Purina ProPlan Bright Mind display caught my eye.

As I was checking it out, I found that Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind is specially formulated to increase cognitive awareness in senior dogs. It has enhanced botanical oils that can help promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs age 7+. According to experts at Purina ProPlan, glucose metabolism in dogs' brains can begin to change around age 7, causing changes in memory or awareness.  A daily diet that includes food with these enhanced botanical oils can help promote memory and attention. I'd love to see Grady continue to have an interest in play and strong mental awareness, even as he ages, so this seemed like a perfect food for him.

He couldn't wait to try it! Whenever you introduce a new dog food, it's important to transition slowly. Over the course of the next week, I slowly added more and more of the new food to his previous diet. By the end of 7-10 days, he was eating only his new Purina ProPlan Bright Mind and loving it!

I'm so excited to see how Grady does on his new Purina ProPlan Bright Mind diet. Owners have reported seeing changes in their dogs within 30 days, so I'll be sure to check back in and report our progress.
