How To Get Your Home Ready for Cold & Flu Season

Tracking Pixel

You probably know how to get your family ready for cold and flu season. By now you have hopefully gotten your flu shot, packed hand sanitizer in your purse, and committed to taking your vitamins every day. But did you know that there are things you can do to get your home ready for cold and flu season? I'm partnering with Member’s Mark 3-ply facial tissues, who is sponsoring this post, to show you how!

It's the sad truth that cold and flu season hits us at the same time as the busy holiday rush. If you have kids, you know there is no way to avoid it completely. I have twins in two separate kindergarten classrooms this year, which means double the germs coming home. And when one kid gets sick it is just a matter of time before the other catches it too. That's why I'm doing these things to get my home ready to help prevent germs from spreading and to take care of my family when they do.

How to Get Your Home Ready for Cold and Flu Season

Stock Up on Essentials

The most important thing to do to get your home ready for cold and flu season is to stock up on essentials. This means everything you'll need to help you get through a cold and the things that can help prevent germs from spreading too. You'll want to have a good supply of:
  • Tissues
  • Hand Soap
  • Cold & Flu medicine
  • Thermometer
  • Ice pops/throat lozenges
  • Disinfecting cleaning products
  • Sick day activities for the kids

When it comes to essentials, one of the cold & flu season tricks I learned from my mom is to keep a box of facial tissues everywhere in the house.

Seriously, when it is the season for sneezes you should have a box of tissues within arm's reach no matter where you are in your house. Especially with kids! That's why I stock up with the Member’s Mark Premium 12-pack of 3-ply Facial Tissue when I'm doing my Sam's Club shopping (and bonus that I can order online and pick it up at my local club).

With over 900 tissues in every package, I can be confident that I'll have enough to cover all our sniffles and sneezes. These aren't flimsy make your nose raw tissues, these are strong enough for your worst colds while being soft and gentle on even the most delicate faces. Plus the box designs will complement any decor so you won't mind having one on every table and counter!

(PS - check out the new Spring/Summer designs coming soon too!)

When you're stocking up for cold and flu season, not to mention the holiday rush of visitors and guests, be sure to add the Member’s Mark Premium 12-pack of 3-ply Facial Tissue to your shopping list.

Be Prepared to Clean

Once you're all stocked up on essentials, the next thing you'll need to get your home ready for cold & flu season is to make sure that you have a cleaning plan to both prevent illness and to disinfect after it hits. Include your favorite cleaning products on your stock up list, and pay extra attention to places germs might linger like door handles and light switches when you are cleaning.

When choosing decor for the holidays or every day, think about things that can be easily washed. My favorite feature of my living room furniture is that the slipcovers can be removed and tossed in the wash.

Of course you don't need to buy all new furniture for cold & flu season, but think about things like washable accent pillow covers and washable throws when choosing your seasonal or holiday decor.

Declare Your Home a No Shoe Zone

Don't let dirty shoes drag germs into your home any time of year, but especially during cold and flu season. Create a space for shoes just inside the front door and declare the rest of the house a no shoe zone. You can even leave a basket of slippers for guests (my next door neighbors do this and it's so nice!). And if you have pets, be sure to wipe their paws when they come in from outdoors. Member's Mark 3-ply facial tissues are strong enough to do the job without irritating your pup's sensitive paws.

Improve the Air

Cold and flu season happens when it's often too cold to open our windows and air out our homes. Fortunately there is a super easy way to improve your indoor air quality all year round: add some plants to your living space.

Plants can help remove toxins from the air and can boost your mood, especially during dark winter months. Just be sure to keep a box of Member’s Mark 3-Ply Facial Tissues nearby to help wipe away any dirt or water spills (watering the plants is my 6 year old's job so this is a common thing in our house).

Cold & flu season is a fact of life. But with a little preparation and a lot of tissues, you can get through it, no matter how many sneezes come your way.
