When it came time to update my twins' nursery to a big kid bedroom, it was no surprise what kind of decor one of my boys chose. He has loved Mickey Mouse since the first time we turned on Disney Junior so of course his side of the room is all things Mickey.

My Mickey Mouse loving boy was thrilled to discover that we can find all new episodes of Mickey and the Roadster Racers most Friday mornings on Disney Channel this summer. We were inspired by one of the all new episodes about an adventure at an art museum to create some DIY canvas art of our own!

Turning Friday into FRiYAY with Disney Junior

Friday is usually our day to stay home and relax, so watching all new episodes of our favorite Disney Junior episodes on Disney Channel is the perfect way to start the day. This summer they have inspired us to do some fun activities like making our own Puppy Dog Pals collars and putting on a magic show.

Mickey and the Roadster Racers is hands down one of my boys' favorite shows. They love the action and adventure featuring characters that they have known and loved forever. It's one of my favorites too, because I love how Mickey and his friends work together to solve problems and embrace the power of doing good. This spirit of teamwork and service inspires my family to work towards making our world a better place, whether it's through caring for our pets, being good stewards of our environment, or just lending a helping hand throughout our community.

In the spirit of working together, and inspired by "The Artful Helpers" episode of Mickey and the Roadster Racers airing this month, we created a really fun art project that you can do with your kids. It's super simple but looks amazing on the wall. It would make a great gift too!

DIY Canvas Art Inspired by Mickey & the Roadster Racers

This is a really easy project that you and your kids can do together. It's all about having fun as you get creative! Here's what you need:

  • Stretched canvas - mine was 16x20 but any size will work.
  • Acrylic paint
  • Black felt - I prefer the sticky backed felt. If you use plain felt you will also need fabric glue.
  • Scissors
  • Toy cars

Choose your paint colors and pour onto a paper plate or paint palette. Set out your canvas and toy cars, and invite your children to paint using the cars. Let them pretend to be Mickey and his Roadster Racer friends as they zoom all over the canvas, creating their own unique designs!

Once your painting is finished, allow it to dry. Then cut out 3 circles from your black felt to create your Mickey Mouse silhouette. For my 16x20 canvas, my large circle was 8 inches in diameter and the 2 smaller circles were 5 inches in diameter. You may need to adjust your measurements if you are using a different size canvas.

Peel and stick the felt circles in the shape of Mickey Mouse's face (or glue if using) onto your canvas. Allow the glue to dry if necessary and your art is complete!

I love how our Disney Junior inspired art came out - it is the perfect addition to my son's Mickey Mouse bedroom and a great reminder of our fun summer Fridays (or FRiYAYs!)

Check out brand new episodes of Mickey and the Roadster Racers and all your favorite Disney Junior shows every Friday morning this summer on Disney Channel. And be sure to visit Disney Junior on Facebook for updates and even more FRiYAY fun!
