Create a Cozy Kids Room with DIY Wall Art

Make your child's bedroom cozy for the season with new bedding and lodge inspired DIY wall art.

This post is sponsored by Kohl's, but all opinions are entirely my own.

As I was unpacking the winter PJs from storage my son asked me if I could make his bed "extra cozy." There is nothing better than a cozy bed to snuggle into when nights turn chilly, so of course I said yes. I knew exactly where to go to find the perfect bedding for a cozy room makeover, and what I found inspired me to add a special DIY project for his wall too.

Thinking about your own cozy kid's room makeover this winter? Take a peek at ours and see how easy it is thanks to Cuddl Duds bedding at Kohl's.

Cozy Kid's Room Makeover

To make your kid's room super cozy, you need the right bedding. You can find exactly what you need for a great price with the Cuddl Duds collection at Kohl's.

You may think of cozy layers when you think of Cuddl Duds, and you can get that same snuggly warmth in their sheets, duvet covers, and comforters too. For my boys' room, I decided to pair Cuddl Duds flannel sheets with a heavyweight flannel duvet cover.

Cuddl Duds flannel sheets are perfect for a kid's room. They are soft and cozy, and come in tons of prints that kids will love. I picked snowmen and dogs for our room (because with kids, you always need two sets). There are also super cute dinosaurs, cats, bears, and more in the collection (check out all the choices here).

I started with the snowman sheets and as you can see, my dog/polar bear agrees that they are soft and snuggly.

Once the sheets were on (and the dog was off), it was time to put on the new duvet cover. I decided to go with a duvet over our existing comforter instead of a whole new comforter. Using a duvet is a great way to update your room -- it's less expensive than a new comforter and it is easier to store out of season. But if you need a new comforter, Cuddl Duds quilts are a great choice (and they have the same lodge inspired print in the quilt collection).

Do you hate putting on duvet covers? Try my favorite hack!

1.  Lay your comforter out flat.

2.  Turn the duvet inside out and lay flat on top of the comforter.

3.  Safety pin the bottom corner of the duvet to the bottom corners of the comforter. The Cuddl Duds duvet covers come with ties and you can use those as well, but I prefer to safety pin.

4. Then flip your duvet cover right side out with the comforter inside! The pins will keep it in place, and you can secure the top corners with more pins or use the ties. Then button it closed and your new duvet is ready for your room.

I just love the lodge inspired print on this Cuddl Duds flannel duvet. It is so cozy and snuggly, and the buffalo plaid mixed with bears print is super on trend this year.  In fact, it inspired me to add a lodge inspired piece of wall art to the room, and I have the FREE design file for you to make it too!

DIY Lodge Inspired Wall Art for the Kids Room

This is an easy project if you have a cutting machine. If not, you can modify it by printing the entire design on heavy card stock and putting it in a frame.

To make this DIY project, you'll need:

  • Blank pallet wood sign
  • Iron on or vinyl material (I used the Cricut lumberjack sampler).
  • Cutting machine
  • Heat press or iron (if using iron on)
  • Free design file -- download it below.

Once you have your file downloaded, you can upload the image to your cutting machine and follow the directions for iron on projects. You can also use vinyl if you prefer.

Once your design is fixed to your pallet, you can hang it in your room for the perfect cozy accent. I added new winter white curtains, a fun accent pillow, and our favorite snuggly friends to finish our cozy room makeover.
